Meeting Summary

Date: Feb. 3, 2009

1. Work group activities and accomplishments since the last meeting:

Texas Disaster Relief Fund awarded United Way $500,000 for the LTRC.

Earnest Dyer, St. Vincent de Paul, referred the McCormick Foundation to Jennifer Posten who provided them with a list of LTRC members. The foundation will invite proposals for funding.

Overall assessment of work day was good.

Repair & Rebuild work group will start using its meetings like an unmet needs table for R&R cases.

LINC Houston now has a full-time estimator.

Jennifer P. sent a letter to several disaster relief organizations on behalf of the LTRC requesting volunteers.

2. Highlights of meeting discussion:

In the coming months we will be reaching out to funders, and will need information from LTRC members to make our case.

It was affirmed that an organization must be a member of the LTRC to access LTRC funding.

Spiritual & Mental Health Work Group will discuss limits on what types of services can be funded.

We learned from the Jan. 24 work day that: volunteer coordination worked and we will continue with this model; project managers always need to be on site; there are plenty of tasks for unskilled volunteers; we need to look at ways of sharing equipment across work sites; we can run as many projects in a day as we have project managers for; if a project requires more than one day, we might need to use more than one team of volunteers; we should consider training that would bring semi-skilled volunteers to a higher skill level; we need to schedule volunteers weeks or months in advance.

3. Support and/or action needed from another work group, Steering Committee and/or Long Term Recovery Committee:

LTRC service providers are asked to provide Linda O. with the following data in order to make our case to funders: 1) # of houses repaired, # individuals in case management, # of volunteers, # of donations.

LTRC will develop an ongoing resource list.

R&R work group will provide Case Management work group with guidance on how to refer clients for home repair assistance.

Mark will create a Google spreadsheet to capture R&R projects that are either completed or in the queue.

Peter will advise committee of dates and times of H-GAC hearings on CDBG funding and supply talking points for comments. All members are invited to attend the hearing in Houston on Feb. 12.

4. Barriers and/or concerns:

5. Action Items:

Jan. 13, 2009, meeting minutes approved with revisions.
