Meeting Summary
Date: Mar. 30, 2009
1. Work group activities and accomplishments since the last meeting:
Linda and Peter met with Sheltering Arms staff about their home weatherization program and the possibility of working with LTRC. Sheltering Arms has more funding now than in previous years and needs to expand the program accordingly.
2. Highlights of meeting discussion:
Sheltering Arms has requested outreach assistance for the weatherization program. Jennifer P. suggested Interfaith Ministry’s meals-on-wheels program. Jennifer H. said she can provide data to help find the homes.
Case Management work group meeting tentatively scheduled for April 8.
Jennifer H. is doing sequence of assistance training for NCI and its sub-recipients on April 7. She will train other agencies who request it.
Cases are scheduled for presentation on Mar. 31 in R&R work group. If accepted they go on a wait list.
R&R big concern is increasing capacity to make repairs.
Helen Marr, FEMA VAL, was introduced.
3. Support and/or action needed from another work group, Steering Committee and/or Long Term Recovery Committee:
Peter will send LTRC contact list to steering committee.
4. Barriers and/or concerns:
LTRC has the unusual problem of having to turn down volunteers because we do not have enough supervised projects for them to work on. Unskilled volunteers can do painting and debris removal. City of Houston might have a list of properties that require debris removal. We need to get case management agencies involved. Will they supervise projects?
5. Action Items:
Mar. 9, 2009, meeting minutes approved (via email vote)
Next Meeting: Monday, Apr. 6, 10:00-11:00 am at United Way, Room 201
