Meeting Summary
Date: May 18, 2009
1. Workgroup reports
• Case Management – Carol Flores reports that LSSDR just returned from training in Beaumont regarding the case management pilot. There will be a 1-800 number released for residents to access assistant soon. Carol also suggested that Mental Health provide and in-service training to case managers in the near future and committee suggested that this could be a part of the resource fair on June 23, 2009, space permitting. Additionally, any case manger regardless of county jurisdiction, are welcome to attend the June 23rd Resource Fair which is 2:30 at the United Way.
• Repair and Rebuild – Jennifer Posten reported on behalf of Amanda that the new RR case presentation model will be starting May 26, 2008 with Stephen Lobo as the coordinator of that process.
• Spiritual & Mental Health - Saliha reported about process for case managers to access mental health professionals and agrees if there is room at the June 23rd “Resource Fair” that the process should be presented again.
• Volunteer Management – No report given
• Donations – Linda Walker reported that she is work with local Lowes retailers and the Salvation Army. Linda also mentioned that Marcela and she are working to source mattress from the manufactures. Additionally, Jennifer Posten suggested that donations in particularly donated household items could be included in the unmet needs process and that other organization should be explored for donations.
• Toolbank USA – Stefanie reported on the successful presentation from Toolbank USA. The ToolBank is a resource for the charitable sector. The sole mission is to lend tools so that others can carry out their missions. Toolbank USA is considering expansion to Houston and is interested in organizations that would like to collaborate in the formation.
2. FEMA & State VAL departures
• Jennifer Posten asked the committee to think about questions, resources and other needs that we might want from our VALs before they depart.
3. New Committee Schedule
• The GHLTRC Steering Committee meeting will now be held every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 10 AM at the United Way. Next meeting will convene on June 8th.
