Meeting Summary
Date: Dec. 11, 2008
1.
Activities and accomplishments since the last meeting:
All
work groups are meeting regularly – many on a weekly basis.
Steering
committee met December 8, 2008.
Several
members of LTRC testified December 9 at a hearing to determine how $1.3 billion
in Texas
allocation of Community Development Block Grant disaster funds will be used.
A
mission statement, objectives, guiding principles and membership expectations
was drafted.

Highlights of meeting discussion:
The
mission statement, objectives, guiding principles and membership expectations
(collectively “Organizing Principles and Participating Agency Agreement”) were
reviewed and discussed. Steering committee composition was explained and January
8 election of at-large members was announced.
It
was agreed that communication must be clear between various work groups,
steering committee and general membership. Suggestion was made to post meeting
schedules and minutes to VOAD website.
Distinction
was made between a long term recovery organization and a committee. GHLTRC is a
committee—a collaborative effort of its members.
Organizations
active in long term recovery were encouraged to attend work group meetings.
Volunteer
management work group reported that it is setting up a volunteer reception desk
and working on getting the word out that volunteers are needed. Next meeting is
Dec. 12.
Spiritual
& Mental Health work group reported that it is defining an operating model.
Donations
and Warehousing work group reported that it is actively soliciting donations
negotiating for warehouse space.
Case
management work group reported that it is developing a common assessment form
and data collection system, as well as protocols for the unmet needs committee.
Next meeting is Dec. 19.
Repair
& Rebuild work group reported that it is meeting weekly on Tuesdays at 10
am at United Way.
Success of rebuild relies heavily on case management for screening, volunteers
and donated materials. Group estimates it can repair 350-500 homes in first
year.
