Meeting Summary
Workgroup reports:
• Case Management – Najah reported that the CM group has moved the CM meetings to a monthly schedule. The meeting will now be held every 4th Wednesday of the month at 2:30 at the United Way. Marcela reported that there might be an additional 1000 names added to the Harris County list due to a FEMA error. Marcela also reported that NCI will be hosting “Recovery Fairs” at the following locations:

• Repair & Rebuild – Amanda reports of the ongoing efforts to recruit more organizations into the RR workgroup. Some issues that require further discussion are that of Heirship determinations and interoperability in the duplication of benefits. A combined CM & RR meeting will be held to find common ground on the DOB and data management.
• Mental Health – Sue reported that the DOB could be an issue for the MH providers also. Sue also report that members of the MH group have the ability to provide training on Self Care training for Case Managers.
• Volunteer Management – Continuing to recruit volunteers and students via the chronicle volunteer corporate fairs and a new PSA with Jerome Gray of KPRC.
• Donations Management – Linda was not present but Mark of LINC reported that Linda has provided their agency with ten hot water heaters.
Resource Fair Update – Najah reported on the success of the fair. Over 250 case managers attended. Planning next steps to continue the success and momentum of the fair, the staff plans to send a survey out to target specific needs or resources that case manager need to be successful.
City of Houston CDBG Ike Home Repair Program – Jennifer P. reported about the meeting with Richard Celli. The City is already promoting and repairing homes with the CDBG allocation. They will repair eligible homeowners’ houses up to $30,000. Homes requiring more will be granted $50,000 dollars as a down payment toward a new home. The GHLTRC’s point of Contact to Houston’s Housing Department is Cody Cobza and he has agreed to attend our July 27, 2009 meeting.
H-GAC/SSBG update – Stefanie reported about the July 9 hearing. Many GHLTRC members attended and that there was consensus in many areas to be funded, such as unmet needs, minor home repairs and legal service. The H-GAC timeline for the SSBG fund is as follows:
• RFP release – 7/30/09
• Bidder’s Conference – 8/06/09
• Responses due – 8/25/09
• H-GAC Board approval – 9/15/09
