HELP US PROTECT THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN LOUISIANA!

The Louisiana Voting Rights Network is seeking volunteers to serve as non-partisan legal observers and poll monitors in New Orleans on Election Day, Saturday, May 20th, 2006.

The Network, which includes both local and national civil rights organizations and advocacy groups, launched an unprecedented effort to monitor polling place activity during the primary election on April 22nd of this year. Monitors played a crucial role in ensuring that Orleans Parish voters, many of whom traveled great distances to cast their ballots, had the opportunity to exercise their voting rights in this historic election. The monitors were strategically positioned in polling locations throughout the City and were able to spot numerous problems, which Network coordinators addressed throughout the day. In light of this successful effort, we are recruiting more volunteers for the general (run-off) election.

We prefer volunteers who can serve the entirety of the day 5am - 9pm, but we also welcome those who can only help in one of the following two shifts: 5am - 1pm or 12pm - 9pm.

No previous experience is necessary. However, TRAINING IS MANDATORY. The training sessions include information on issues to watch for. If you were already trained and served as a Network monitor on April 22nd, no additional training is necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering, please RSVP for one of the following training sessions by signing up at http://action.rockthevote.org/ctt.asp?u=1772223&l=7966.

If you have any questions, you can send an email to nolavote@gmail.com or call 504.899.1889 to leave a message.
