Alliance for Multicultural Community Services (the Alliance) is pleased to announce that it was recently awarded funding from the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) to support an employment-focused outreach and recruitment program targeted toward Hurricane Katrina (and Rita) evacuees. The Alliance will use HGAC funds to outreach, recruit, and assess 1,500 Katrina and Rita evacuees who are considered hard-to-reach (and may also be considered to have Low-English-Proficiency -LEP-) and refer them to the WorkSource and other community partners for employment and related support services. The Alliance will particularly target members of the Vietnamese, Hispanic, and African/African-American community. Additionally, we will provide follow-up and limited case management to individuals referred through this program. This is a six-month program scheduled to begin in December 2005.
For more information or to refer individuals in need of employment assistance, please contact Ms Miriam Diria at the Alliance-713.776.4700 x 112, mdiria@allianceontheweb.org.
Please contact Ms Diria if you have any questions or would like to explore ways in which to collaborate with the Alliance to serve hurricane evacuees-
